Dr. Orion S. Rivers received his PhD in Microbiology with a focus on Bacterial Genetics from The University of Hawaii in 2017. Dr. Rivers dissertation focused on the role of an inhibitor of cellular differentiation within the model cyanobacterium Anabaena sp. PCC 7120. He joined the Institute for Imaging and Analytical Technologies in late 2017. Dr. Rivers current job responsibilities include the preparation and imaging of all biological samples brought to the institute for analysis via TEM, SEM, and confocal microscopy. He is also involved in research, teaching, and is the head of the institutes outreach program. Dr. Rivers research focuses on the preservation of the ultrastructure within biological samples. He has significant experience with preparation techniques for electron and confocal microscopy as well as ultramicrotomy.
