Access I2AT iLab

I2AT uses Agilent iLab Solutions for instrument scheduling, service requests, and billing.

Beginning September 1, 2026, all new I2AT equipment reservations must be made through iLab. Facility Online Manager (FOM) will no longer be used for scheduling I2AT equipment after August 31, 2026.

The transition to iLab is occurring on a rolling basis. You do not need to register immediately if you do not currently need to schedule I2AT equipment. However, iLab is required to schedule I2AT equipment, so we recommend completing your registration and lab setup before you need to make a reservation.

MSU users should sign in using their MSU credentials through SSO.

External users should follow the iLab registration process and provide the information requested during registration.

New Users and Lab Members

Researchers and students who want to use I2AT equipment must:

  1. Create or access their iLab account.
  2. Join or request to join their PI/Lab Group.
  3. Have their PI approve the request.
  4. Complete the required I2AT safety training.
  5. Complete the required instrument-specific training.
  6. Receive authorization from I2AT before independently operating equipment.
  7. Schedule equipment through iLab.

Important: Being approved as a member of a PI/Lab Group in iLab does not automatically authorize a user to operate I2AT equipment. Safety training, instrument training, and instrument authorization are managed separately by I2AT.

PI/Lab Group Approval

When a researcher or student requests to join a PI/Lab Group, the PI will receive a notification through iLab.
The PI should:

  • Review the request.
  • Approve appropriate lab members.
  • Ensure that the researcher is associated with the correct lab/group.
  • Manage appropriate user roles and permissions.

Once approved, lab members can work with I2AT to complete the remaining training and authorization requirements.

For assistance with iLab lab/group setup, contact I2AT.

Billing and Financial Information

I2AT uses iLab to manage billing information associated with instrument usage and services.

For MSU users, the appropriate Banner account/funding information must be associated with the laboratory/group before charges can be processed.

If someone in your laboratory is responsible for financial or billing activities, the PI may designate that person as a Core Financial Contact in iLab.

Scheduling I2AT Equipment

Once you have an active iLab account, have been approved to use the appropriate I2AT resources, and have completed the required training and authorization, you can schedule equipment through iLab.

To schedule an instrument:

  1. Log in to I2AT iLab.
  2. Select the appropriate I2AT equipment/service.
  3. Review the instrument availability and scheduling rules.
  4. Select the desired date and time.
  5. Complete any required reservation information or custom forms.
  6. Submit the reservation.

Please make reservations only for equipment on which you are currently authorized to work.

Requesting Technical Assistance

Some I2AT instruments provide an option during the reservation process to indicate that technical assistance is required.

If technical assistance is requested, please provide sufficient information in the reservation form to allow I2AT staff to prepare for the session.

Technical assistance may include instrument setup, sample preparation, method development, troubleshooting, or other assistance depending on the instrument and request.

If you are unsure whether you need technical assistance, please contact I2AT before making your reservation.

Safety Training Requirements

I2AT users must complete the safety training (Lab Safety Training, X-ray Safety Training and Hazardous Waste training).

Additional training may be required depending on the instrument, sample, chemicals, or experimental activity.

Completion of safety training does not by itself authorize independent instrument operation. Users must also complete the applicable I2AT instrument training and receive authorization from I2AT staff.

I2AT Badge Access

I2AT facility access is separate from iLab registration and instrument authorization.

Badge access is granted based on the user's training, experience, need for access, and ability to work independently while following I2AT procedures and safety requirements.

Users must:

  • Use their own MSU ID/badge.
  • Swipe their badge when entering I2AT facilities.
  • Enter only areas for which they have appropriate access.
  • Use only equipment for which they are authorized.
  • Never use their badge to provide unsupervised access to another person.
  • Keep laboratory doors closed and secured.
  • Remove samples and clean the workspace after use.
  • Follow all I2AT safety procedures.

Guests and visitors require appropriate authorization.

I2AT facilities are generally accessible 24/7 to authorized users, except during maintenance, emergencies, or other facility closures.

Food and beverages are not permitted in instrument laboratories.
